Introduction to the Liberation of Mazcab
May 2016
With the ability to loot raid bosses every day, you might want to enter the Liberation of Mazcab raid instance for the first time this weekend. In case you do, we would like to present you with a basic overview of the instance.
One thing we won’t do – we won’t give you a step-by-step guide to killing the bosses, Beastmaster Durzag and Yakamaru. We believe that RuneScape content is the most fun when experienced yourself. Some useful information so that you have an inkling of what to expect is fine, detailed walkthroughs are not. With that said, let’s dive in.
To get two the raid instance in the first place, you will need to be in a raid group of up to ten players. When you are inside, you will face Beastmaster Durzag first. This… creature is a super strong airut, a weird boar-like creature that can stand on two legs. Once you enter the room where the fight is going to take place, Beastmaster Durzag won’t be there yet.
You will have to free the goebie in the middle of the arena to start the fight. Once you do that, enemies, consisting of Cormes (one of Durzag’s pets), Chargers, and Airuts, will swarm you. Once you kill them all, Beastmaster Durzag will appear with one of his remaining two pets, Krar or Tuz. There will be Chargers in small pens. You should fight them before they get released all at once by Durzag.
This raid fight, like many raids in other games, requires someone to tank the boss and additional monsters, while DPS players deal damage to the boss and anything else that needs to get dead fast, in order to complete the fight. While Beastmaster Durzag can be defeated with one or three tanks, the seemingly optimal setup has two tanks and eight DPS for a ten player group. Keep that in mind when fighting the boss. Seeing as we don’t want to spoil your fun too much, this is all we’re going to say about this boss.
If, however, you would rather know what you’re getting into beforehand, if you’re anti-fun and just want to get the GG lootz, there are some detailed guides on YouTube you could watch. Nevertheless, we urge you to try the fight without looking at those first.
Now, after you successfully kill Beastmaster Durzag, it will be time to face the second boss of Liberation of Mazcab, Yakamaru.
According to lore, Yakamaru used to be a guardian spirit that protect Mazcab’s inhabitants, until he was corrupted by an airut shaman. This magical brainwashing resulted in Yakamaru fighting for them. While it’s sad that Yakamaru was a good guy once, you shouldn’t really let it stop you from killing it. You aren’t a goody two-shoes like Naruto, are you?
If you are entering this raid instance for the first time, you should ask to play DPS/Healer, as it is the least difficult. It’s always better to to start performing more difficult, specialised tasks once you have more experience in completing the fights and have more of an idea about what’s happening at all times. You should wear Power armor and heal the raid whenever it needs to be done by using equipment that serves as a shield, and then using Heal Other or Heal Group, while Barricade is up.
Yakamaru mostly just stands in place over each phase of the fight. It only moves once his health is depleted, starting the next phase, of which there will be five.
He also spawns various colorful jellyfish. Whenever you see one, stop dpsing Yakamaru and start killing the jellyfish. While certainly weird (when was the last time you saw a baddie use jellyfish as minions?), they are also interesting.
This is all we’re willing to say about this awesome fight. If you want more information, study some video guides. We won’t be disappointed in you TOO much for it. With this weekend’s theme, it’s the best time to try it out for yourself and see. There’s nothing better than the excitement of seeing challenging content for the first time. If we could, we would use the Men in Black mindwipe thingie and complete this Raid for the first time again. Alas, we can’t. Don’t let dreams be dreams, if you want to raid on RuneScape, JUST DO IT. Especially this weekend.
